Twice Blessed: Sebastian Spence I write for Spark, a small UK based newspaper, and was lucky enough to land a dream assignment; the opportunity to interview Sebastian Spence. In order to bring this to you as soon as I'm allowed (it's not wise to scoop the paper you write for) I've published here the final draft of the article. I would have loved to write more, and talked in more depth about one of my favourite actors, but space constraints meant I had to be brief and heavily edit the piece. As so much was cut, I hope in the next couple of weeks to rewrite the piece specifically for this site. I hope you will enjoy reading, it was a lot of fun and Sebastian answered more fully, and frankly, than any journo could have dreamed. A huge thank you must go out to both Sebastian, for taking time out of a busy schedule to do this, and BJ Widro, who did an immense amount to make this possible. I can't thank you enough, what a treat this was. But you don't want to listen to me...you want to read

Sebastian Spence was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland Canada on the 9th of December 1969. Following in his parents footsteps, his late father, Michael Cook was a play writer as is his mother Janis who also acts, he decided on a theatrical career. Initial stage success led to his casting in the critically acclaimed drama, The Boys of St. Vincent, a harrowing tale based on real events surrounding a church-run orphanage. From there his career took off, gaining a recurring role in Madison, then guesting on a string of high profile shows including The X Files, Poltergeist the Legacy and The Outer Limits. Film roles also came his way, including the role of Eddie Fein opposite Charles Bronson in the Family of Cops series of films. Then in 1998 he landed the role that would make him a star, Cade Foster. Initially the writers had an older man in mind for the role, but luckily Chris Brancato and co. were able to look past his then Billy Idol hair do and see that Sebastian was the only man for the job. After three seasons the ride has come to an end, but Sebastian's career continues with recent roles in the films First Shot: The President is Down, Little Boy Blues and Succulent Tasty and Nice. With guest parts in cult favourite Dark Angel, and new VH1 series Strange Frequency it's clear we are to be treated to more from Sebastian in the years to come. On a personal note one of the things I enjoy most about being a fan of Sebastian's is his dedication to his fans. Over the years he has gone out of his way to let us know how much he appreciates us...he didn't have to do that, but time and again he makes time. The picture above was taken at home whilst he was signing autographs for his fans. See, I told you he was a great guy! |
